Michael Morton on the win against Maritzburg United

Posted: 29 April 2016 Time: 22:51

Michael Morton believes a change in formation is what helped SuperSport United’s come-from-behind win against Maritzburg United on Friday evening.

Matsatsantsa looked all over the place in the first half and were fortunate to only be 1-0 down. However, reverting to 4-4-2 seemed to do the trick as the Tshwane side dominated after the break to run out 2-1 winners.

“We started with three at the back and I just think we struggled to adapt,” says Morton, who laid on the first goal and was later named Man of the Match.

“They had the better of the first half, but the coach brought us in at halftime and changed to a 4-4-2, and it made a massive difference as we could get some pressure on the ball. I managed to turn over a couple of transitions and we caught them on the counter.”

The result sees SuperSport pull clear of the chasing pack in eighth place, and Morton says they knew how crucial the victory was.

“We checked the results on the weekend and it didn’t go in our favour; we were back in eighth position with three teams on 33 points behind us. We knew that tonight would be crucial and we got the win, so it’s good,” he told SuperSport after the match.
