Keegan Ritchie says Kaizer Chiefs were relieved to end an eight-game winless in all competitions with a 2-1 league victory at University of Pretoria on Wednesday night.
The ex-Moroka Swallows left-back feels the Glamour Boys were rewarded for their persistence after conceding early on at Tuks Stadium.
Ritchie, who was named Man of the Match, told SuperSport: "You know it was a good game and we are relieved. We are looking better. We haven't got the results in the past few games but we have been doing well, you know.
"The lads fought hard today. I thought we could have gotten more out of the game. We had a lot of goal-scoring chances, we just didn't take them. But you know I am proud of the boys and it was a good game."
He added: "We worked hard to get the two goals. We came out and fought like we did in the first half and were rewarded with the result."
Steve Komphela's side are third on the Absa Premiership table with 44 points from 26 matches - 15 points shy of Mamelodi Sundowns, and 11 behind Bidvest Wits.
