Thuso Phala praised SuperSport United’s character following their come-from-behind win against Mpumalanga Black Aces in the Nedbank Cup on Friday evening.
Matsatsantsa had trailed after just five minutes to Judas Moseamedi’s goal, but second half strikes from Jeremy Brockie and Bradley Grobler saw them through to the semifinals.
It was similar to their game against University of Pretoria in the last 16, when they were 3-1 down with less than 20 minutes to go before winning on penalties.
“It was a very tough game, especially coming from behind,” Man of the Match Phala told SuperSport after the game. “Credit must go to the guys; they put it [effort] in to come from behind, so we showed the character we have in the team, and hopefully it will pull us through the last game.”
Phala feels winning the Nedbank Cup will save what has otherwise been a disappointing season for the club.
“We never had a good season, so the Nedbank Cup – winning it and finishing in the top eight – will be a fair enough season for us. That’s our goal … we want to go all the way, and hopefully we will.”
