Mamelodi Sundowns defender Thabo Nthethe is determined to have a CAF Champions League-winning star etched on his jersey come the end of the year.
The Brazilians trail Congolese giants AS Vita 1-0 following their first leg second qualifying round loss a week ago, yet ‘Mr Cool’ is confident his side will bounce back as they go in search of that elusive star.
“Our ultimate aim is to get the star that would represent Champions of the tournament,” he is quoted as saying on his club’s official website. “It’s really exciting times to be part of this team that will leave a legacy of putting a star on the Sundowns jersey.”
Fellow defender and skipper Ramahlwe Mphahlele agreed, and feels his side have held their own in the competition thus far.
”The CAF Champions League is the ultimate test for top clubs from Africa’s football leagues,” he said. “These are exciting times of the season. We have done well so far and we intend to end the season having achieved all goals set.”
‘Rama’ has urged the Downs’ faithful to get behind their team ahead of Wednesday’s midweek CAF fixture at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
“Keep attending matches at the stadium,” Mphahlele pleaded with his club’s supporters. “We appreciate your presence and would like to thank you for your support.
"It’s vital to push to the last game and spurring us on to win.”
