Botes strike enough for Wits

Bidvest Wits kept up their title challenge with a 1-0 victory over struggling Jomo Cosmos in an Absa Premiership clash at Olen Park on Wednesday night.
After a scrappy and disjointed opening period from both sides, Wits took the lead in the 25th minute with a goal to fit the football.
Henrico Botes was in the right place in the six-yard box to sweep in the easiest of tap-ins after Sherwyn Naicker split Daine Klate's inswinging free-kick from the right.
Charlton Mashuma had earlier struck the crossbar with a venomous left-footed shot from outside the box that beat Moeneeb Josephs, but not the woodwork.
Cosmos' best chance of the first half came in the 27th minute when Linda Mntambo was played through on goal, on the penalty spot, but Nazeer Allie got back to make a brilliant last-ditch tackle.
The first half ended without any further goals, and the second half continued in the same vein as Cosmos struggled to create clear opportunities to equalise despite dominating and looking threatening. The Clever Boys were on the back foot for most of the second half.
Ezenkosi pushed hard for a leveller in the closing ten minutes but were frustrated in their attempts as Gavin Hunt's side held onto their lead, with Moeneeb Josephs making an excellent save in the 92nd minute to deny substitute Tebogo Makobela.
The result keeps the pressure on Sundowns as Wits maintain their title challenge but for Cosmos it means they remain in the bottom two.
