Kumasi Asante Kotoko ended their three-game unbeaten run with three late goals against Real Tamale United to collect all three points and go second in the Glo Premier League.

The result was a major relief for Kotoko coach Maurice Cooreman who was coming under increasing pressure after a run of indifferent by the Porcupine Warriors.

Cooreman’s evening appeared to be heading for another draw when Alex Asamoah inspired a turn around with two goals sand witched between Stephen Manu’s effort.

Kotoko huffed and puffed in the first half to no effect but came to life just when Real Tamale United coach Abdul Razak threw everything forward.

Louis Agyemang, on for Kwadwo Poku was first to a long ball into the RTU area, flicking it into the path of Asamoah. The big money buy from AshantiGold took one look at RTU goalkeeper Charles Kippo before smacking a right footed volley across the face of goal on 70 minutes.

That goal swung the game into Kotoko’s favour as they turned on the style. On 82 minutes, Jordan Opoku drove from midfield played a one-two with Stephen Manu who showed great composure to calmly finish.

The third goal and Alex Asamoah’s second was the best of the evening. Asamoah picked up the cramps from a foiled attack. With the whole stadium expecting a cross, he took a good look at the RTU goalkeeper before unleashing a fine drive into the top left corner.

It rounded up a fantastic evening for the Porcupine Warriors who are now four points behind Accra Hearts of Oak on top of the league ahead of their mouth watering clash in Kumasi on February 8.
