SA U-23 midfielder Gift Motupa draws positives from Brazil loss

Posted: 29 March 2016 Time: 07:59

Gift Motupa believes the South Africa U-23 side gave a good account of themselves despite losing 3-1 to Brazil in a friendly in Maceio on the weekend.

Owen da Gama's men went down to strikes from Rodrigo Caio, Felipe Anderson and Andreas Pereira, with Lebogang Mothiba pulling one back for the visitors at Rei Pele Stadium.

Motupa, who played the full 90 minutes, feels the game served as valuable experience ahead of the Rio Olympics, taking place from August 5 to 21.

"The match was a highly charged affair," Motupa told Orlando Pirates' website.

"Brazil is a quality side and they have a lot of good players but personally I think we gave a good account of ourselves.

"We lost the match but I think we gained a lot of valuable experience ahead of our trip back to Brazil for the Olympics," concluded the Buccaneeers midfielder.
