Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba called up the Dikwena striker on Monday as a replacement for injured hitman Dino Ndlovu.

Mashaba's men will take on the Indomitable Lions in back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Limbe on Saturday and in Durban next week Tuesday.

Bafana are desperate to impress as they only have a point from two matches in Group M, five points less than pace-setting Cameroon.

"It’s all hard work. Being number three on the Absa Premiership table, you expect to have two or three players in the Bafana side but we are happy to have Mabena in the team. We hope he gets a run against Cameroon and do better for the country than he has been doing for us," Johnson told his club's website.

Mabena, who has one international cap, has netted seven goals and provided four assists in 18 league appearances for high-flying Stars this season. The former Orlando Pirates man most recently bagged a winner against Mpumalanga Black Aces last Sunday.

Johnson says Mabena is a team player who has shown an ability to adapt.

“This season we changed our tactics a lot. We approached games differently and we asked players to understand and Mabena is one of the players that adapted very well. Mabena is not an individual player. He is a team player.”

Mabena joined Prince Nxumalo, Thamsanqa Gabuza and Tokelo Rantie as the hitmen at Mashaba's disposal.
