Maritzburg United captain Kurt Lentjies eyes clash with University of Pretoria

Posted: 23 March 2016 Time: 10:55

Maritzburg United captain Kurt Lentjies is well aware of the stakes heading into their basement battle with University of Pretoria on April 9 at Harry Gwala Stadium.

The Team of Choice are propping up the Absa Premiership standings with 16 points from 22 games - a point behind AmaTuks, who have played an extra match.

Jomo Cosmos are hovering above the relegation zone with 20 points from 23 matches.

"This is really a big one for us. It comes after our first league victory at home against Arrows. Winning it will take us off the bottom of the log for the first time, it’s a big one," Lentjies told his club's website.

"The focus is on each of the next seven games, not the game in hand. So we are taking it one game at a time," added the experienced playmaker, who is United's top scorer this season with eight goals in all competitions.

Lentjies is determined to give Maritzburg's fans something to cheer about in their final eight games of the campaign.

"Wow. Our supporters are number one in the country. The numbers at home keep increasing with each game under even with the condition we find ourselves in. I can only promise them 100 percent commitment to win the game on the ninth for them. They are amazing and we want to thank them by winning our remaining games."
