Refereee Eketseng Setloboko is the Man of the Match – that’s the sarcastic opinion of Golden Arrows head coach Clinton Larsen after seeing his side lose 3-0 at home to SuperSport United on Saturday.
“I thought he was a man of the match. I thought he was the best player out there,” the normally mild-mannered Larsen said after the game.
“It’s not for me to say, but I'm sure he's going to be judged by the powers that be,” Larsen added hopefully.
Safa recently suspended a number of under-performing match officials.
Arrows finished the game with ten men as Siyabonga Dube was sent off in the 72nd minute after receiving a second booking for illegally blocking a throw-in by Luvolwethu Mpeta as Supersport were looking to counter-attack.
United were 2-0 up at this stage, having silenced Chatsworth Stadium with first half goals by Dove Wome and Kingston Nkhatha from the penalty spot. Jeremy Brockie added the third near the end.
It was Arrows second loss on the trot and United leapfrogged them into the top half of the Absa Premiership table.
Although Larsen was critical of refereeing, he said his team did not show enough fight to warrant victory.
“I don’t think we created enough chances … I think we only had two or three chances on target in 90 minutes, and that is not enough,” he said.
“The only positive was that our two youngsters once again shone ... Quincy Ngcobo got a game today and I thought he held his own in the middle of the park. Thabo Molefe once again did so well for us.”
