Free State Stars forward Sello Japhta is determined to represent South Africa at the Rio Olympics in August.
Japhta, who netted a match-winning brace in the Free State derby last weekend, was called up for the national Under-23 team's friendly with Brazil at Rei Pele Stadium on March 27.
The Stars academy graduate has scored thrice since making his PSL debut in a 3-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns on November 21 last year.
“I am very ecstatic with the call-up to the U-23s,” Sello told his club's website.
“It came as a complete surprise considering that I only made my senior debut late last year. Not long ago I was part of the development squad. It’s proof that hard work pays off.
“I’m allowing myself to dream beyond the U-23 team – I want to play for Bafana Bafana.
“My short-term goal is to impress the U-23 national selectors and hopefully I will book myself a ticket to the Rio Olympics.”
