Jomo Cosmos stunned Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 with a contender for goal of the season from their only shot on target in their Absa Premiership clash at FNB Stadium on Tuesday night.
Chiefs started the brighter team, attacking with verve and intent for the first 20 minutes before fading later in the half as Cosmos put men behind the ball and offered nothing going foward.
William Twala was the liveliest player for Amakhosi, causing probems for Cosmos down the right and left flanks, although he also missed the best chance to score four minutes in when he volleyed over from close range at the far post.
Camaldine Abraw also showed glimpses of promise but ultimately Cosmos goalkeeper Modiba had a fairly routine 45 minutes as Chiefs failed to truly stretch the Ezenkosi wall and make him work.
The second half was as uneventful as the first even after the introduction of Hendrick Ekstein and George Maluleka for Chiefs, with Camaldine Abraw and Lucky Baloyi making way.
Amakhosi had a shout for handball in the area waved away in the 82nd minute as Wiseman Maluleke stole the ball off Twala in the area, no penalty, and replays were inconslusive.
And then disaster struck for Chiefs; jubilation for Cosmos, as with their first shot on target Mxolisi Macuphu fired a thunderbolt of a shot on his left foot off the very tip of Itumeleng Khune's glove and into the top-right corner.
The result is a massive three points for Ezenkosi, who have given their survival hopes a huge boost with the most unlikely result and moved out of the relegation zone. For Chiefs, it is their fourth defeat in a row – equalling their own worst record.
