Bidvest Wits CEO Jose Ferreira says his club is keen to keep striker James Keene beyond his current contract amidst interest from SuperSport United.
Keene's contract with Wits is set to expire at the end of the season and this website revealed yesterday that Matsatsantsa are preparing to make him an offer for next season.
But Ferreira confirms Wits’ intention to keep the 30-year-old for next season and beyond.
“Your story is correct that his contract with the club is set to expire in June, but he has an option,” Ferreira tells KickOff.com.
“I don’t have the documents with me but it’s for the long term,” he adds.
Keene has been impressive for Wits this season, netting eight goals in just six starts in the League.
Meanwhile, Ferreira has confirmed that striker Phakamani Mahlambi’s operation on his long-term knee injury was successful.
“He went for an operation last week. It all went well. He will go for a medical check-up again to determine how long will be out of action,” adds Ferreira.
