Whilst teammate Tebogo Langerman is hurting after being snubbed by Bafana Bafana selectors, Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Hlompho Kekana is delighted after finally getting a call-up.
Kekana, Asavela Mbekile and Themba Zwane are all the Downs players to have been selected to face Cameroon during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers this month.
And although Shakes Mashaba is still to trim down his 25-man squad, Kekana says he is honoured to have noticed by the national team coach.
"It’s a life-time honour to represent my country," the in-form midfielder said. "I am always ready for a call-up, and am always happy to represent my country.
"If you look at my past performances, you will see that the call-up has been on the way,” he continued. “I am happy with the progress of my performances and am happy that I have managed to catch the eye of the selectors.”
Meanwhile, Brazilians coach Pitso Mosimane has revealed that Langerman is disappointed after left out of the Bafana squad, with Mashaba opting for Thabo Matlaba, Sifiso Hlanti and Cheslyn Jampies in the left-back position.
"I must tell you, he is very disappointed,” Mosimane said of Langerman. "He said to me, ‘Coach, I am not saying I must play ahead of Matlaba, but at this point in time according to stats, I am more effective and ahead of the other two.’
"I said to him, ‘Just shut your mouth and play. You have a chance here to help us lift a few trophies and that's important.’”
Downs face Bloemfontein Celtic in their next PSL fixture on Wednesday.
