Former Orlando Pirates striker Kermit Erasmus makes Rennes debut

Posted: 14 March 2016 Time: 07:57

South African striker Kermit Erasmus made his official debut for French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes on Sunday evening.

Rennes fought back in a 2-2 draw at home to Lyon, after being 1-0 down at half-time, as Erasmus came on as an 80th minute substitute - two minutes before his side scored the equaliser.

The ex-Orlando Pirates attacker had mostly seen reserve team action until he was included in coach Rolland Courbis's squad to face Nantes last weekend, but was unfortunately left out of the match-day squad of 18.

The 25-year-old will now be hoping to build on his progress thus far, and fight for a regular spot in the line-up with eight games left in the current league campaign.

The point sees The Red and Blacks remain in fifth place on the log, with 45 points from 30 games, and they are just two points away from a UEFA Champions League qualifying spot.

Paris Saint Germain have already won the league title following a crushing 9-0 win over Anele Ngcongca's bottom-placed Troyes on Sunday.
