Ajax Cape Town striker Prince Nxumalo says he wishes he was in the Bafana Bafana camp today after getting selected for the 2017 African Nations Cup qualifiers against Cameroon.
Bafana take on the Indomitable Lions in back-to-back Group M matches on March 26 and 29.
Nxumalo is thrilled to return to the national fold after missing out on the trip to Costa Rica and Honduras in September last year due to struggles with epilepsy.
“I’m so happy about this call up; I just heard it now from coach Roger de Sa,” Nxumalo tells KickOff.com at Ikamva.
“I’m very happy because I’ve never played for the national team before and I really wish I was in camp now. At the beginning of the season I got a call but it wasn’t to be because I was out for a while.”
Nxumalo is second on the PSL scoring charts with 11 goals this season, one less than Zambian Collins Mbesuma.
Nxumalo, however, expects a battle for game-time with fellow Bafana forwards Thamsanqa Gabuza, Tokelo Rantie and Dino Ndlovu.
“We have lots of great strikers in this country and getting a call-up doesn’t necessarily mean that I will start or play regularly. I need to go there and fight for a place in the team. We have strikers in the team who are better than me but I will also make it difficult for them because I will fight.”
Bafana will assemble on March 20 and depart for Limbe three days later.
