Ajax beat Usuthu

Thembinkosi Fanteni’s goal ensured Ajax Cape Town remained at the top of the Absa Premier League when they beat AmaZulu 1-0 at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Urban Warriors dominated the first half, but both teams failed to seriously threaten the other’s goal, as Usuthu struggled to match the pace of the league leaders.

The match remained goalless at the break.

Fanteni struck a minute into the second half when he headed home a Brett Evans cross to hand Ajax a deserved lead.

AmaZulu wasted a glorious chance in the 68th minute when they were awarded a penalty, but Pere Ariweriyai sent his effort wide.

The hosts pushed more men forward and almost drew level in the 77th minute when John Moshoeu sent his header crashing against the crossbar.

With that went AmaZulu’s final chance of the game as Craig Rosslee’s youngsters maintained their position at the summit of the league.
