Stuart Baxter wants Ejike Uzoenyi, but ….

SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter says he has been impressed with Ejike Uzoenyi, but adds that a deal with Mamelodi Sundowns will be too expensive.

The Nigerian international has been training with Matsatsantsa since the start of the year after the Brazilians decided not to register him for the season.

Uzoenyi has since impressed, but the stumbling block is the finances.

“We spoken about the lad. I have given the report to the club about what I think tactically, technically, mentally and physically he is,” Baxter says.

“I think where we are is the whole deal when you look at it is quite an expensive one. I don’t know the ins and out of it. But we’ve went back to Sundowns and said, ‘we don't see it being that, we see it being that. And there will be few talks. It may take a bit of time.”

Baxter also adds that they can only sign him for next season should they agree with Sundowns, and that he would rather give a chance to other players now.

“I would rather take a couple of kids and give them a little bit of time, rather than invest a lot of money that we don’t need to.”
