Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane was delighted for Asavela Mbekile after the defender scored his first goal for the Brazilians this season.
Mbekile opened the scoring in the 40th minute as Downs emerged victorious in the Tshwane Derby beating SuperSport United 2-0, Khama Billiat adding the second to secure the three points and Pretoria bragging rights.
Sundowns have now scored 41 goals in 22 league games this season, with contributions coming from all over the park, and Mosimane was thrilled to see Mbekile finally add his name to the scorers list as well.
“It was a great goal he [Mbekile] scored, chipping over the keeper … he needed a little bit of guts and had nerves of steel to score that brilliant goal,” ‘Jingles’ said.
“I am happy he scored because he is the only one that had not scored yet … (Tebogo) Langerman has scored, Thabo (Nthethe), Wayne (Arendse), (Hlompho) Kekana, Teko (Modise), Khama, Leo (Castro) and even (Tsotso) Ngele has scored … and even Surprise (Moriri) scored from the bench.
“We were waiting for Shoes (Mbekile) to score and maybe we will give Dennis (Onyango) a penalty next time, then we will be happy that everybody has contributed [this season], “ he joked.
Downs now turn their attention to Cup matters as they prepare to face Highlands Park on Sunday afternoon.
