Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns legend Brian Baloyi has named the two goalkeepers who have most impressed him this season.
Baloyi, now a goalkeeper coach at Naturena, feels Jomo Cosmos’ Sherwin Naicker and Brighton Mhlongo of Orlando Pirates has been the standout players between the sticks.
“I am obviously happy with a few goalkeepers,” ‘Spiderman’ tells KickOff.com.
“Most of the time they’ve been called on they have really stood out. And amongst themselves they’ve won a number of Man of the Match accolades.
“I’ve been most impressed with the Jomo Cosmos goalkeeper, Sherwin Naicker. He’s been outstanding throughout this campaign so far and he seems to be improving with each game he plays.”
Baloyi also feels that Mhlongo could be the next Bafana Bafana goalkeeper if given a chance.
“The other one is Brighton. After what happened at Pirates with Senzo [Meyiwa], people never gave him a chance. Everybody thought that Pirates needed another high-profile goalkeeper, but he has been very patient.
“Now you can count him as one of the very top goalkeepers in the country and if given a chance one day he will be donning the national team jersey.
“He was very unfortunate to have had the injury, but since returning he has pretty much stabilised Pirates’ defence again.”
