Mamelodi Sundowns have maintained their lead at the top of the standings following a 2-1 win against Mpumalanga Black Aces at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Most of the work was done in the first 10 minutes when Mzikayise Mashaba and Hlompho Kekana scored as the Brazilians raced out the blocks.
Aces worked their socks off in the second half, but could only manage an injury-time consolation through Mpho Matsi.
Sundowns netted in the fifth minute when Man of the Match Billiat made a great run down the right before beating Thabo Nonyane and crossing for the onrushing Mashaba, who made no mistake from close range.
A few minutes later, an exchange of wonderful passes on the right edge of the box saw Kekana receiving the ball and taking a grass cutter to beat Shu-Aib Walters, making it 2-0 for the hosts.
In the 12th minute, Billiat tried a long-range curler from 25 yards out, with Aces’ first real attempt coming on the half-hour mark when Denis Onyango tipped a powerful shot from Mukuka Mulenga over the bar.
Onyango also tipped Aubrey Modiba’s drive over the top as the visitors fought back strongly.
The Ugandan keeper was at it again in the 75th minute when he produced a double save to deny Aubrey Ngoma and Thanduyise Khuboni.
Two minutes later, substitute Sibusiso Masina nearly beat Onyango from close range in the box but his shot went over the bar.
With six minutes to go, the Brazilians' bench introduced Anthony Laffor and Katlego Mashego for Billiat and Keagan Dolly. Immediately Mashaba nearly made it three when he made a fantastic run, only to see his shot denied by the crossbar.
In the dying minutes of the encounter, defender Ashraf Hendricks received a sweet cross from Nonyane and his powerful header sailed over the bar.
However, in injury time, Matsi pulled one back for the visitors from a header at the far post.
