Mpumalanga Black Aces defender Eddie Ngalo has revealed the uncertainty that faced them when AmaZulu were reported to be on the brink of purchasing their PSL status before the season started.
Aces are third in the Absa Premiership standings with 11 games remaining have been the surprise-package of the 2015/16 season.
The team has done remarkably well for a club that was nearly sold in the off-season, and Ngalo admits the rumours were hugely unsettling.
“It was difficult – especially for new players coming into the team – with the rumours that team will be sold," he recalls.
“But we knew from the chairman’s side that they were just rumours and that there was nothing concrete, so we galvanised the guys to say ‘Look, let’s focus on pre-season and our project’ because our project was to be in the top four.”
Ngalo adds: “We had a good technical team that tried to motivate us to stay positive during the whole saga.
“We knew what we wanted from pre-season and I think the guys are sticking to that plan [top four] by working hard. I think we’re still on the right track with our project, but now we need to finish what we promised one another.”
Aces are still clinging onto the title race, but Ngalo says they are also desperate to represent the club in CAF competitions.
“We want a taste of the international games because some of us are old and this is the last opportunity for us to play international football by challenging the top three.”
