Chippa United players support coach Dan Malesela

Chippa United players are backing Dan Malesela to succeed with the team and perhaps become one of their longest-serving coaches.

Malesela joined United towards the end of last year and has managed to push the team into the top eight so far this season.

The Chilli Boys are currently lying in position six on the Absa Premiership log with 28 points after 19 games.

Malesela is yet to be offered a permanent contract after the club parted ways with Roger Sikhakhane, although club chairman Chippa Mpengesi has indicated that he intends to.

Chippa midfielder Sandile Zuke says the whole team is enjoying working under Malesela and they would back his permanent appointment.

“It’s not for me to comment about the coach, I am only a player at Chippa United. But yes he has done well and the results are showing,” Zuke tells

“He has brought confidence and belief amongst amajita [my teammates] that we can be successful if we work hard together as a team.”

Chippa are set to welcome Free State Stars in their next league match at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium tomorrow. Stars are in high spirits after beating Orlando Pirates 1-0 on Wednesday night.

“We are aware they beat Pirates and their confidence is high. Our preparations for the game have been going well and we are ready for Free State Stars,” Zuke concludes.
