William Twala: I have fit in at Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder William Twala says he been able to slot into the team with ease since joining from Chippa United just over a month ago.

Twala has had a refreshing start at Naturena, featuring in all six of their league outings since he arrived on January 14, and says the confidence and support he has received both from his teammates and the supporters has been tremendous.

“I wouldn’t gauge it [my performance] myself, but I’m happy that the fans have given me a good reception,” said the 25-year-old at the club’s media day on Thursday.

“I came to a team with stability and confidence, and they’ve introduced me very well. They’ve welcomed me so well that you cannot tell whether I’m new or not. It’s just that the confidence from the guys and the support has been amazing.”

Twala has so far managed one goal, which came in the final minute of stoppage time in their 2-0 win over Golden Arrows earlier this month, and also notably won the match-winning penalty on his Amakhosi debut against Bloemfontein Celtic.

Despite this, the former Orlando Pirates winger has promised his “best is yet to come” as he aims to contribute towards the return to supremacy for Steve Komphela’s side this season, as well as in the seasons to come.

“At the moment, I wouldn’t say that [I’m helping the team in the way they need], but my best is yet to come. So far I think I’m doing fairly well, if not moderate,” he added.

“But I’m looking to get even better, seeing that the team has gotten some form at the moment with the four-match winning streak. We’re looking to better that even more starting with the game [against SuperSport United] this weekend.”

The reigning Absa Premiership champions currently occupy fourth spot with 35 points – one point behind Mpumalanga Black Aces and Bidvest Wits – and trail leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by 10 points.

Chiefs host Matsatsantsa at their borrowed home Cape Town Stadium in their 20th league fixture on Saturday evening, with kick-off set for 20h15.
