Bidvest Wits striker James Keene has acknowledged he is aware of the expectations he has thrown onto his shoulders following his phenomenal start to his PSL career.
Keene has scored five goals in his first six games for Wits leaving Kaizer Chiefs fans wondering why and how he wasn’t signed by the club when he came for trials last year.
“I have enjoyed my stay here so far,” he tells KickOff.com.
The five goals that Keene has scored in the half-dozen games played have left him amongst the leading scorers and just six shy of leading scorer Collins Mbesuma of Mpumalanga Black Aces.
“Five goals in six starts is definitely a great start by any standards for any player who arrives at a new club,” he says.
“I am aware that when you start this well you obviously bring a bit of pressure on your shoulders because there are now going to be expectations which I have to deal with because this is the nature of the job as a striker.
“I know very well that the challenge is now making sure that I continue doing well.”
Keene is expected to lead the Wits attack against University of Pretoria at Bidvest Stadium on Friday night provided he passes a fitness test.
“For me the priority is on seeing the team winning. If the team wins and I don’t score I will still be happy,” he notes.
