Chippa steal late win over Celtic

A late goal from Rhulani Manzini helped Chippa United defeat Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 in an Absa Premiership clash played at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium on Sunday.

Despite their victory, the Chilli Boys remain sixth on the league standings. Furthermore, Phunya Sele Sele remain eleventh on the league table.

Phunya Sele Sele dominated the opening stages of the encounter, but they were forced to make a change 11 minutes into the game after Fiston Razak Abdoul sustained a head injury.

Former Witbank Spurs forward Julius Likontsane replaced the Tanzanian striker. Linkontsane had a chance to put Celtic into the lead on the half-hour mark, but he was ruled off-side.

The Chilli Boys nearly broke the deadlock in the 34th minute when exciting midfielder Joseph Molangoane's header went inches wide of the target.

Zaphaniah Mbokama played a good early cross into the Celtic box a minute before the half-time break, but Bevan Fransman was well-positioned to make a clearance.

Nigerian international keeper Akpeyi fumbled Celtic midfielder Thapelo Morena's shot in the 54th minute, but the rebound was cleared away.

Celtic were awarded a free-kick in a promising area in the 66th minute after James Okwuosa fouled Musa Nyatama. Likontswane wide the resultant set-piece.

Former Platinum Stars striker Rhulani Manzini was introduced with five minutes left on the clock replacing Burkina Faso striker Aristide Bance.

Manzini made an immediate impact as he scored the winning goal with a great shot in the 90th minute. Chippa emerged 1-0 winners on the day.
