Ajax Cape Town striker Tashreeq Morris was thrilled to score a goal against SuperSport United on Sunday in what was his first start since suffering a knee injury in May last year.
Morris netted the opener in Ajax's 3-1 win over Matsatsantsa at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
He told his club's website: "Coming back from this injury and going straight into the first eleven is a big achievement in itself. Credit has to go to the medical team – Jantho, Nicole and Michele who all helped me recover and get back onto the pitch. Also credit has to go to the coach for showing that amount of confidence in me, playing me straight away when we were given the go-ahead from the doctor.
"It’s really a great feeling coming back and being placed straight into the first eleven. The way it seems is that the coach has been waiting on me to recover to play me again, that means a lot to me."
Morris added: "One of the things a player would want most after coming from a long injury layoff is to score. I’m so happy that it came so early for me. I will continue to try hard every time I play not only to score but to do whatever I can to help the team win. It’s been tough at times for the team, but we are fighting hard to get points from every match and I think we are starting to get things right again."
The 21-year-old, who made his return off the bench in the 1-0 defeat of Golden Arrows last month, was the Urban Warriors' top scorer in 2014/15 with nine goals.
