Bidvest Wits have closed the gap at the top of the Absa Premiership to three points following a 1-0 victory against Golden Arrows at Chatsworth Stadium.
The home side started the game well and were the first to attack in the 18th minute when Deon Hotto shot wide, before Kuda Mahachi produced some fine skill before also missing the target.
The Students broke the deadlock through debutant S’fiso Hlanti in the 27th minute with free-kick after Henrico Botes was fouled, and the ex-AmaZulu beat Mbaeva on his near post with a stunning curler.
On 32 minutes Moeneeb Josephs was forced to make a great save to deny Arrows when Rodney Ramagalela took a shot from close range after a corner, but the keeper was equal to the task.
Gladwin Shitolo then missed a sitter on the stroke of half-time, before Mabhuti Khenyeza’s header crashed off the woodwork.
Mbaeva tipped over nother Hlanti free-kick on the hour-mark, before Arrows substitute Mahlatse Makudubela’s shot also hit the woodwork.
Hunt’s men held onto their lead and walked away with the three points, handing Arrows their fourth loss on the trot.
The victory took the Clever Boys to the second spot on the log table with 36 points, three points behind Sundowns, who are set to play Free State Stars on Sunday afternoon.
