Asavela Mbekile on replacing Bongani Zungu

Posted: 4 February 2016 Time: 19:04

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Asavela Mbekile says he can fill the void left in midfield by Bongani Zungu.

Zungu has been ruled out for 12 weeks after suffering a hairline fracture of the shin in the 3-2 win against Maritzburg United.

Mbekile filled the void in the 3-0 win against Chippa United on Tuesday night, and says he will give it his all to ensure Zungu’s absence is not felt too much.

“Zungu has raised the standard and it is going to be hard to catch up with what has done, but I am willing to work hard to get to his level,” Mbekile says.

The former Moroka Swallows midfielder has been used mainly as cover at right-back since he arrived at Chloorkop, but says he will fit in wherever is needed.

“As long as I am on the field I am happy. I am comfortable inside, but if I have to play right, I will play.”
