Clinton Larsen unsure of Mabhuti Khenyeza return date

Posted: 3 February 2016 Time: 14:48

Golden Arrows coach Clinton Larsen is expecting Mabhuti Khenyeza to be back in training this week after he requested to be excused for their 2-0 loss to Kaizer Chiefs.

Khenyeza missed training on Wednesday but watched from the sidelines and Larsen is not sure when 'Bhubesi' will return to the team.

“Mabhuti, there was a personal request from him not to be part of the squad [against Chiefs] and it was something personal,” revealed Larsen after the game yesterday.

“So we allowed him some time off and yeah he has been missed … we know his qualities, experience. He is one of the few experienced players in the team and hopefully he will be back soon.”

When asked if Khenyeza will be back against Bidvest Wits this weekend, Larsen said he cannot tell since Khenyeza needs to get to training first to be fit for the game.

“We have to train for four days first,” he added. “We will assess our squad and we will assess our approach for Wits. If he is doing well at training he stands a chance of being in the 18-man squad.”

The 33-year-old has made 11 league appearances this season and scored two goals, with four assists to his name.
