Santos coach Zeca Marques has hailed the capture of Liberian international Kpah Sherman as a potential turning point in their troubled season.

The National First Division side had hoped to be among the promotion contenders this campaign, but instead find themselves closer to the bottom than the top.

They have recruited forward Sherman from Mpumalanga Black Aces on loan for the remainder of the season, a player who arrived at AmaZayoni amid much fanfare at the beginning of the campaign.

Sherman made just five appearances for the side in the first half of the season though without scoring a goal. Marques believes a change of scenery will allow him to show his true potential though.

“Sometimes you come into an environment and it can take you a while to settle, or the mix is just not right,” Marques tells KickOff.com.

“We took a good look at him and saw a lot of good qualities in a player that we felt just needed a change of scenery to shine. From what he has shown in training so far that looks to be the case.

“He has brought a different dimension to us, and I am going to use him as an attacking midfielder and not a striker because that is where I think he will add most value.

“He works hard, you can really see he cares about his career and about improving as a player. That is what you want to see.”

Black Aces had tracked Sherman for some time and when they finally landed the player in August, chairman Mario Morfou predicted he could be one of the club's best ever signings.

“He’s an excellent player and arguably one of the best players we have ever signed,” Morfou said. “He will be an ideal partner upfront with Collins Mbesuma and I’m confident he will be amongst the top goal scorers in the league this season.”

A Liberian junior and senior international, he has also played in the lower leagues in Sweden with Härnösand FF and in Northern Cyprus at Düzkaya SK and Cetinkaya, where he won the league title.
