New Maritzburg United signing Glenn Verbauwhede is confident he can help the club survive relegation.
United, who are propping up the topflight standings at the halfway stage of the season, on Friday confirmed the capture of the former Mamelodi Sundowns man.
The Belgian has penned a deal that will run until July, and will compete for game-time with Virgil Vries and Tawfeeq Salie at Harry Gwala Stadium.
"The club is positioned way too low considering the quality of the team," Verbauwhede told the team's website.
"I have been following the league closely and the results against Supersport and Orlando Pirates could have been better. The team needs a ghost that hangs on it for the last 10 to 15 minutes of the game.
"I believe in this team, I am not scared, I know that we will get out of this situation. If I didn’t have hope, I would not have committed myself."
Verbauwhede appealed to the side's fans to make their presence felt, starting with Saturday's visit of log leaders Sundowns.
"Be hopeful and hold on. Like we don’t give up, they should also not give up. Be the 12th man that you always are, the way that you were against Pirates."
Verbauwhede was previously a free agent after being released by Downs earlier in the season.
The 30-year-old has permanent residence status in South Africa.
