Royal Eagles say Katlego Mphela wasn't AWOL, back in training

Royal Eagles general manager Richard Makhoba says Katlego Mphela is back in training and was not AWOL, as had been speculated in the media.

Mphela is back in training along with Mbulelo Mabizela and Khethokwakhe Masuku as the team prepares for their next NFD match against Thanda Royal Zulu on Saturday.

“Contrary to reports that Mphela has gone AWOL, the truth of the matter is that the player was given a few days off to nurse his knee injury,” Makhoba tells

“OJ and Masuku are also back after also missing the past game due to injuries,” he adds.

“We are playing in a KZN derby against Thanda this weekend. It’s going to be an exciting game with both teams desperate for points. The mood is positive and we are confident for the three points.”

Meanwhile, Eagles have reinforced their attacking department with the signing of midfielder Kabelo Mahlasela from Bloemfontein Celtic.

The former Orlando Pirates player has joined on a six-month loan deal and returns to Eagles for a second spell after he left the club at the beginning of the season to join Celtic.
