SuperSport United sack Gordon Igesund

Posted: 27 January 2016 Time: 09:42

SuperSport United have parted ways with coach Gordon Igesund after a poor run of form which has left the club down in 10th spot.

The former Bafana Bafana coach started his reign at Matsatsantsa in fine style by winning the Telkom Knockout Cup in 2014, but has lost more than half of his 40 matches since.

The final straw was the 2-0 Tshwane Derby defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns – a game which followed on the heels of a 4-1 drubbing by Polokwane City.

SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews said they had no choice but to cut ties with Igesund.

“Performances have not matched expectations and we felt it fair to tell Gordon that we are looking to the future,” he said.

Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has been confirmed as Igesund's replacement.
