Jomo Cosmos collected three much-needed points with a 1-0 victory over Soweto giants Orlando Pirates at Olen Park on Saturday night.
Zimbabwean attacker Charlton Mashumba got the goal in the 74th minute for the home side, who consequently move four points clear of the relegation zone but remain in 14th spot on the table.
Pirates, who missed a first-half penalty through Lehlohonolo Majoro, are 12th in the standings with 16 points from 14 games - two points ahead of Ezenkosi.
The Buccaneers could have gone ahead midway through the opening stanza, but Majoro failed to hit an empty net before Sherywn Naicker denied Thamsanqa Gabuza from point-blank range on the rebound.
At the other end, Brighton Mhlongo was forced in to a double save in the 32nd minute by the menacing Mashumba.
The Sea Robbers were awarded a spotkick three minutes later after Gabuza went down in the box. However, his strike partner Majoro was unable to beat the in-form Naicker from the spot.
Naicker continued to impress after the break, as he did well to foil Thabo Matlaba's powerful attempt from range in the 51st minute.
Mashumba then produced the decisive play of the game in the latter stages when he turned Senegalese midfielder Issa Sarr before firing home, with Bucs unable to find a way back.
