Maritzburg United have confirmed the signing of Tumelo Mogapi and say a deal for Musa Bilankulu is also imminent.

Both players have just been released by Bloemfontein Celtic and will be joining former Celtic coach Ernst Middendorp at the Team of Choice.

According to Maritzburg United chairman Farouk Kadodia, Mogapi has already been signed while Bilankulu's deal is set to be concluded any time soon.

“Yes, Mogapi has been signed. Regarding Musa Bilankulu, when we have signed the player we will make an announcement, but we haven't signed Bilankulu as yet,” Kadodia tells

Bilankulu is familiar with KZN, having previously played for Golden Arrows. The 29-year-old, who made 12 appearances this season for Phunya Sele Sele, played 116 matches for Abafana Bes’thende and scored 17 goals, mostly with his head.

The steely defender will fight it out for a central defensive position along with Kwanda Mngonyama, John Paintsil, Brian Onyango, Tamsanqa Teyise and David Booysen.

Meanwhile, Mahlakeng-born Mogapi has a huge fight on his hands in an effort to dethrone Philani Zulu, who has made the left-back position his own.

Zulu has played all 14 league matches this season and was given the captain’s armband in the last match against Orlando Pirates as Kurt Lentjies was suspended.
