Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela was encouraged by the efforts of Sula Matovu and new signing William Twala against Bloemfontein Celtic on Sunday.
Chiefs beat Celtic 1-0 thanks to Willard Katsande's successful penalty in the 71st minute at Free State Stadium.
Matovu started the game ahead of the injured George Lebese. The Ugandan winger was later replaced by debutant Twala, who earned the spotkick following a challenge from Aphiwe Lubisi in the box.
“Sula played well and added value with his desire to get behind their defence. He was marked by good Celtic defenders,” Komphela is quoted as saying by the club's website.
“As for Twala it was more of introducing him to have a feel and get a warm welcome from the fans. Twala nearly scored with a pile driver that shaved the upright.”
Amakhosi signed Matovu in July 2015, while Twala was recruited from Chippa United last week.
Meanwhile, Komphela confirmed Lebese is expected to soon be over the groin problem he sustained in the goalless draw with Mamelodi Sundowns on January 9.
“We have stated in the preview that we needed Lebese’s services badly. His groin injury is not as bad as we thought. He should be back anytime soon.”
The Glamour Boys next entertain Platinum Stars at Cape Town Stadium on Sunday, with kick-off set for 15h30.
