Mpumalanga Black Aces goalkeeper Shuaib Walters says people need to take them seriously in the 2015/16 Absa Premiership title race following their win over Bidvest Wits.
Aces came from behind to beat Wits 2-1 at the Bidvest Stadium, and take up top spot on the log, with Walters pulling off a man of the match performance.
The former Maritzburg United shotstopper did everything in his power to keep his side in the game in the first half, before Collins Mbesuma scored in the dying minutes to hand Amazayoni the three points.
An emotional Walters was overjoyed at the result and feels it is high time people consider them as serious title contenders this season.
"I think I knew I had my work cut out for me tonight, but I also knew that if we could overcome this game then we'd be on course for the quarter [Q-Innovation 3 prize]," he said with tears in his eyes.
"I have tears in my ears because it was a very important game for us, and I knew that if we overcome this then people will take us seriously. We're still underdogs at the moment."
It was a hard-fought victory for the Mpumalanga-based outfit, and Walters credits his teammates for taking their chances in what he admits was an open game.
"I'm happy for the team. We took our chances, after they came at us and we went at them, so at the end of the day we're happy with the three points."
