Ajax Cape Town are counting down the days for the return of their top scorer from last season, Tashreeq Morris.
The 21-year-old has not featured this season, having picked up a serious knee injury in May’s Nedbank Cup Final loss to Mamelodi Sundowns, yet is on the verge of a return, with coach Roger de Sa hinting that the striker may slot into his starting line-up by the end of the month.
“Tashreeq Morris is still not ready ... he’s looking sharp at training, but we still need his doctor’s clearance,” he told reporters. “So hopefully he’ll be able to go into full contact soon, and once he gets the clear, I think it’ll be a week or two before we see him in the starting line-up.”
De Sa says the striker, who netted nine goals in all competitions for Ajax last term, is looking stronger than ever, and hopes for an immediate impact on the forward’s eventual return.
“He’s looking good, and I think we will see a new ‘Tassie’ with about 5kg of muscle added to that athletic build of his, and we can’t wait to see him back,” De Sa continued.
“I think he’s put on weight in the right areas, and has bulked up a little bit. A year ago when he got injured, he was a little boy, a youngster and he was taking a lot of knocks, but a very brave kid. And I think he’s come back now looking like a man, and I think that is what will make a difference.”
Ajax, winless in their last seven matches, host Bloemfontein Celtic in their first encounter of 2016 on Friday.
