Nazeer Allie pleased with first six months at Bidvest Wits

Bidvest Wits defender Nazeer Allie says he’s happy with his first six months in Gauteng as he strives to achieve new heights with the Clever Boys.

The 31-year-old spent 14 years at Ajax Cape Town, where he started as an academy product, before moving to Wits at the start of the season.

Allie says he moved in order to find a new challenge, and has been happy at the joint PSL log leaders thus far.

“Obviously when I came here I wanted to settle into the new environment, a new culture,” he told his club’s official website. “I had been at Ajax Cape Town for 14 years and the move was something new to me.

“The first thing on my mind was to train hard in order to be part of the starting 11. I have achieved my goals so far and I would like to continue achieving new goals.”

Allie, who has started nine of Wits’ 12 games so far, says it is a privilege to work under experienced manager Gavin Hunt.

“It is an honour to work with Gavin,” he said. “He has won three league titles and he has a winning mentality and that rubs off on the players. You can see it in our results and I hope we can continue with this good form.”

Allie highlights Wits’ 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates in October as his favourite match thus far.

“My favourite game so far was the away game against Orlando Pirates,” he revealed. “We went down to eight men and still managed to win the match, I received Man of the Match for that game.”

Allie then tanked the Wits faithful for their support, before sending out his festive season message.

“To all the Bidvest Wits fans, thank you for supporting us through the first round of the season and I hope for their continued support in the new year,” he said. “I hope they enjoy the festive season and come back safely in the new year.”
