As the players all go into the festive season break, the Mabhudi Khenyeza Tournament starts today (Wednesday) taking place in Pietermaritzburg at Watle Stadium.
This is the second instalment of the tournament that Mabhudi Khenyeza is hosting over the festive period to keep the community entertained after last year's event in his hometown near Howick.
The event will have eight teams and be divided into two groups. It’s a points system and teams who finish top and second will contest the semi-finals and the winners there will then contest the final.
Just two years in its infancy, early success is starting to show. Quincy Ngcobo from Sobantu Shooting Stars and Khayalethu Mjoli from Natal United FC were originally spotted at this tournament and were signed by Golden Arrows during the off-season through the recommendation of Khenyeza.
"It is the second year that this tournament is taking place in Pietermaritzburg," Khenyeza tells KickOff.com.
"I just want to give exposure to the youngsters because the tournament is not for players from the PSL, NFD and MDC. I just allow Vodacom (ABC Motsepe League) players and downwards to get involved.
"It will start on December 23 and end on the 31st. This tournament has produced guys like (Khayalethu) Mjoli and Quincy Ngcobo, this is where they were spotted."
Khenyeza also changed the life Khayelihle Shozi, who was snapped up by Mamelodi Sundowns, having lost his parents in the age of two with Khenyeza taking over his mentoring.
Shozi has been in great form for Sundowns this season in the Multichoice Diski Challenge, earning some man-of-the-match awards.
Others see him as the heir apparent to Teko Modise when the former Bafana Bafana midfielder leaves Sundowns.
