Free State Stars striker Andrea Fileccia expects to be a marked man

Posted: 10 December 2015 Time: 14:34

Free State Stars striker Andrea Fileccia says he expects to be a marked man given his exploits in the Absa Premiership this season.

The Belgian tops the League's scoring charts with six goals, along with Mpumalanga Black Aces captain Collins Mbesuma.

“I know our opponents will be planning their defensive tactics around stopping me to an extent. It comes with the territory if you are a striker in a decent run of form,” Fileccia told his club's website.

“It doesn’t worry me at all. In fact, I’m relishing the challenge. The more attention teams pay to me the more space they leave for my team-mates to exploit.

“Obviously I want to keep the run going. It has been a good start to the campaign, but I’m not about to start setting myself a goals target for the season. To do so would be to invite unnecessary pressure on myself. There is also more to my game than scoring goals.”

Stars next host University of Pretoria at Goble Park on Sunday before ending the year against fellow strugglers Jomo Cosmos at the same venue on December 19.

“We have been working very hard during the break, improving on our fitness and match sharpness,” Fileccia added.

“Hopefully we will reap the rewards when we play Tuks and Cosmos. We are targeting maximum points from both matches.”

Ea Lla Koto are 13th on the table with 11 points from nine games - a point ahead of Cosmos, and six in front of AmaTuks.
