Owen da Gama’s South African Under-23 side head into Tuesday’s crucial encounter against Zambia without the services of SuperSport United defender Denwin Farmer.
The 19-year-old was stretchered off the park in his side’s opening 8 Nations tournament loss to Senegal following a clash of heads, and has not recovered in time ahead of South Africa’s second group stage match.
“Defender Denwin Farmer will play no part against Zambia. He has not recovered from the mild concussion he suffered against Senegal,” a statement released by Safa read.
“Farmer did not complete today's training session ahead of Zambia match tomorrow. He was stretchered off against Senegal after a clash of heads.”
Bidvest Wits’ Tebogo Moerane, who has yet to feature for his club’s senior side in the PSL this season, is expected to be drafted in to replace Farmer.
Following their 3-1 loss in the first game, South Africa have it all to do against Zambia, who also lost their opening encounter against Tunisia 2-1.
Kick-off for Tuesday’s encounter is scheduled for 17:00 South African time.
