Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela pleased with progress of Hendrick Ekstein

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela is pleased with the progress of fan-favourite Hendrick Ekstein and says he has a welcome headache when it comes to team selection.

Ekstein, who rose to prominence in the Reserve League last term, started his third game in a row in Amakhosi's 1-1 draw with Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday.

Komphela brought on Reneilwe Letsholonyane for Siboniso Gaxa, with 'Yeye' going on to net a stoppage-time equaliser for the Glamour Boys.

"He's [Ekstein] doing very well. He's highly talented and this is why we are saying all the 30 players we signed are all quality players," Komphela says.

"And no wonder when you introduce Yeye they [fans] still like him. Now you as a coach you have a serious predicament that goodness me I need to make a change with someone quality who is going to affect the game. But who do I bring out?

"Which is why sometimes, at some stage, we brought out 'Pa' [Gaxa] and then brought in Yeye and moved 'Sheriff' [Baloyi] on the right side because you don't want to compromise the quality on the field.

"You can imagine if you put in Yeye and pull out Ekstein, or would you pull out Baloyi, or would you take out [George] Lebese?

"They're all quality players and when it is like that you feel blessed."
