Roger De Sa backing for ousted Mosa Lebusa

Posted: 9 November 2015 Time: 21:25

Ajax Cape Town coach Roger De Sa has faith defender Mosa Lebusa will continue his sterling performances for the Urban Warriors despite being left out in the cold by Bafana Bafana.

The 23-year-old was included in the national squad for last month’s friendlies in Central America, and after a nervy debut against Costa Rica, was hauled off after just 16 minutes in the next match against Honduras after his error lead to the hosts’ equalising goal.

Despite the tough time with Bafana, and missing out in the squad selected for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Angola, De Sa says the left-back has not shown any signs of waning for his club, and still rates the talented defender very highly.

“After coming back from the national team, he’s been very good,” De Sa tells “He wants to play – he knows Ajax is his bread and butter, and he knows that these little flirts you have with the national team are going to happen now and then.

“I think he’s still one of the best left-backs in the country, and he’s still very young.”

De Sa feels the experience with Bafana, and his omission from the latest squad, will help build Lebusa’s character, and increase his hunger to improve at club level.

“It’s nice sometimes when a player goes out and experiences those moments, because with us, he’s first-choice and was starting to let his guard down a bit and not be as enthusiastic as he was,” De Sa says. “So maybe it’s a good thing that he’s experiencing that, so he comes back and rolls up his sleeves again and puts up another sterling performance. And that’s what I’m expecting from him.

“He’s very versatile too, and doesn’t just play as a left-back – and he’s a young boy, and will do a great job for us.”

Following the Fifa international break, Ajax take on SuperSport United in what will be their last PSL fixture in Cape Town for 2015 on Saturday, 21 November.
