Steve Komphela says Kaizer Chiefs' style of play is in Hendrick Ekstein’s DNA.
Amakhosi coach Komphela handed the tricky midfielder his first League start of the season in a 3-1 win over Golden Arrows last night.
Komphela later substituted the tiring 'Pule' with George Maluleka - prompting jeers from some Chiefs fans at FNB Stadium.
"There was an uproar from our supporters when we took Pule off,” Komphela told the club's website.
"We needed to make that change, as he had indicated that he was finished. It was, however, great to see him give such a fine display."
The former Marizburg United mentor is well aware the MultiChoice Diski Challenge product is a fan-favourite.
"That’s how our supporters are. They are a very close to the team. They know him from the MultiChoice Diski Challenge, following those games as well.”
Komphela added: “The Chiefs way of playing is in Ekstein’s DNA – the passing, the running… It reminds me a bit of Ace Khuse.”
