Golden Arrows coach Serame Letsoaka gave credit to goalkeeper Maximilian Mbaeva for his man-of-the-match display against Orlando Pirates.
Arrows shocked the Buccaneers through second-half goals from Kudakwashe Mahachi and Gladwin Shitolo on Wednesday night.
However, Mbaeva earned his boss' plaudits for making a number of telling saves at Orlando Stadium.
Letsoaka said: "We are definitely thrilled we got the three points today. Pirates were on top of the situation, they played so well but unfortunately Mbaeva stood between them and victory.
"But with the few chances we created, two especially, we were able to bury them and have three points which we are happy about."
The former Bafana Bafana assistant coach felt his side, who climbed to seventh in the standings, did well to contain the Sea Robbers on their home turf.
"The way our team team defended, they were outstanding, making sure they defended deep, compactly and in numbers. It was the most exciting thing for me. As a coach you always like to see a team play well when they don't have the ball and in this case, I think we did that."
Abafana Bes'thende lost to Pirates in their previous 11 meetings, last tasting victory against the Soweto giants in August 2008.
