Mamelodi Sundowns midfielders Bongani Zungu and Mogakolodi Ngele both said they had to rise to the challenge in their team's 6-1 demolition of Free State Stars in the Telkom Knockout.
The pair scored in Sunday's rout as Sundowns advanced to the semi-finals where they will meet Tshwane rivals and cup holders SuperSport United on the weekend of November 7/8.
Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will contest the other last-four tie.
Zungu, who headed home a corner against Stars, was in the wars early on as the likes of Paulus Masehe fought for control of the engine room.
"Ja, Paulus is a very tough guy," Zungu said when asked how he coped with the attention of the Ea Lla Koto stalwart.
"This is a man's game at the end of the day, you have to be strong. I had to show him I'm also a man."
Man of the Match Ngele, meanwhile, was eager to impress in a rare start this season for the former Platinum Stars attacker.
"First of all I must thank the technical team for giving me an opportunity because I haven't played for a long time.
"I had to stand up today and help the team."
He added: "It's all about being patient and waiting for your chance."
Ngele joined the Brazilians in the off-season from Dikwena.
