Bayelsa United escape hammer

Bayelsa escape hammer

League leaders Bayelsa United will play their weekend fixture against Zamfara United after settling their verified indebtedness of N19.4-million owed to players and officials.

“Club chairman Victor Rumson Baribote handed over a draft of N10-million at the end of a scheduled arbitration meeting on Friday night,” Media Officer Ebi Avi told KickOffNigeria.com/b>. “This is in addition to the N10-million owed to the club by the NPL.”

Last Wednesday, NPL chairman Oyuiki Obaseki announced that the Yenagoa club were suspended until they paid up after repeated failures to meet up with their obligations. But the club protested the suspension, insisting that not only were some of the claims frivolous, but that they had not been given a chance to state their own side of the case since an arbitration hearing was scheduled for Friday, two days after Obaseki's press conference.

“On receipt of the letter from the NPL, we discovered that a lot of the claims were not only false, but had either been settled or withdrawn by the affected persons,” Avi stated at the time.

“This [suspension] is coming as a big surprise to us. Because, based on our previous submission, the arbitration committee invited us to a meeting scheduled for Friday. We are hopeful that Friday’s meeting will resolve this whole problem.”
