SuperSport United earned just their second win of this year’s MultiChoice Diski Challenge League following a hard-fought 2-1 win over Mpumalanga Black Aces.
United took the lead as early as the fifth minute through Zakhele Mgobhozi, yet a defensive error allowed Aces’ Judas Moseamedi to level matters just after the half-hour mark, as the two sides went into the break all square at 1-1.
In sweltering conditions at Dobsonville Stadium, Morne Nel gave Matsastansta the lead once more, converting a penalty just eight minutes into the second half as the Pretoria side held on for just their second three-pointer of the campaign.
Over at the Rand Stadium, Orlando Pirates were comfortable 3-1 winners over Martizburg United with Gift Motupa, Yasser Mugerwa and Jacky Motshegwa on the scoresheet for the Bucs.
In a shock result at the TUT Stadium, last year’s losing finalists Mamelodi Sundowns were beaten 2-1 by visitors Chippa United, who recorded their first win of this season’s campaign.
Earlier in the day in the battle of the students, University of Pretoria and Bidvest Wits played out a 1-1 draw as Tuks lost ground at the top of the table.
Sunday’s MDC results:
University of Pretoria 1-1 Bidvest Wits
Mpumalanga Black Aces 1-2 SuperSport United
Mamelodi Sundowns 1-2 Chippa United
Orlando Pirates 3-1 Maritzburg United
